As many of you will have seen, and some of you will have been lucky enough to experience, our very slimmed-down, no-frills restricted-numbers covid-compliant Runtheberg 2020 event was a great success. We are proud to have been able to host one of the first major South African post-Lockdown trailrunning races, and the feedback from the trail community has been overwhelming.
Subsequently the country has moved from Lockdown Level 2 to Level 1, and we are thrilled to be able to announce that Runtheberg 2021 will look much more like the magnificent trailrunning festival we are used to. We expect that some social distancing guidelines will still be in place and that face masks will still be on the Compulsory Equipment List, but besides that we expect that a lot of the restrictions and limitations we had to impose this year will be relaxed. We look forward to lifting the cap on participant numbers and applying our traditional limit of 500 runners (in total across both Extreme and Challenge races), and we definitely look forward to being able to offer our famous gourmet Water Tables again!
As South Africa and South Africans keep working hard and working together to contain the spread and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, we are optimistic that the country will continue moving forward. We will be keeping a close eye on the virus and the Regulations and we will keep everybody updated every step of the way. At this point it is way too early to predict what, if any, protocols will be necessary, other than to say there should be far fewer than there were this year.
Looking forward to a safe, fun and spectacular weekend of some of the truest mountain running on the planet on 2 & 3 October 2021!
